In this one-night showcase presented in collaboration with Docshop (the documentary chapter of the Filmshop collective) — five character-driven shorts amplify voices from queer and BIPOC communities whose stories dare to imagine life in another world. Followed by a Q&A with select filmmakers.

A SPIRIT IN FLIGHT is an intimate portrait of Eric Jurado-Diaz, a 56-year old man grappling with how to live fully after a diagnosis of ALS (often known as Lou Gehrig's Disease). This 13-minute documentary short is an intimate view into Eric's journey and reflections on growing up gay in Puerto Rico, coming out in the army, becoming a small-town drag superstar and maturing into domestic life with a husband and three adopted sons.

 

IN THE BUBBLE WITH JAIME

In South Carolina, African American Jaime Harrison takes on Republican incumbent Lindsey Graham to run for US Senate. But what happens when the COVID pandemic sets in? In a state with one of the largest African American populations in the United States, Harrison must face not only a global pandemic but a legacy of racial injustice that makes winning an uphill battle.
